The tomb of the Blessed Andrea Xueres in Saint Philip Apostle's Church |
Second part
Anyone who turned to him didn’t go away without having received at least one word of comfort and good advices based always on that gospel logic given to us by Our Lord Jesus Christ. The daily crowding of people who gone to him (who left them with a heart full of hope not only didn’t exalted him but he didn’t even neglect his spiritual duties such as personal prayer and the Breviary that represented for him an inevitable appointment and a sweet source from which to draw for the refreshment of his soul.
He used to consider himself as a useless servant, and he didn’t stop to implore the Divine help for himself and for the reform of the customs of Syracuse and also for this reason his meditations were continuous, his prolonged vigils, his harsh penances, and God rewarded him with the gift of miracles that, according to the people, were the clear proof of his holiness.
Nothing or little is known about his social activity, we know only that, due to the prestige he had also among the authorities and for his personal undoubted abilities, he was entrusted with various important assignments including an embassy on behalf of the Senate of Syracuse at the Queen Maria in Spain, who ruled the Syracuse Regal Chamber, in favor of her own City. He went away from her obtaining all that was the purpose of his mission; indeed it was used to restore a dormitory of the Convent of San Domenico in Syracuse.
